Hailed by critics as the “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” of stage productions, “A Tale of Shaolin” is performed by the renowned Zhengzhou Song and Dance Theatre from Henan province, China.

"A Tale of Shaolin” made its debut in Henan in 2004. It has since toured several major cities in China, as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan. It will make its way to Singapore and the region for the first time this year. The popular production received several national awards, including a Gold award at the prestigious Lotus Blossom Award in 2005, China’s highest accolade for dance productions.

A Tale of Shaolin, a dance pantomime tells a poignant legend of two lovers, scholar Tian Yuan and Su Shui. They are separated and face the danger of being killed after an encounter with brutal bandits who invade into their hometown. Accomplished Shaolin monk Hui Shan rescues Tian Yuan and uses magical Shaolin Medical skill to raise Tian Yuan from the dead.

In the lantern show in Central Mainland, the couple reunites, but encounters brutal bandits once again. Tian Yuan suffers from great humiliation and Su Shui falls into evil hands. Tian Yuan is driven to distraction and seeks to return to Shaolin Temple. With the love for Su Shui and the aspirations for revenge, Tian Yuan begins to practise Wushu and learn skills.
